Frequently Asked Questions

Does filing an extension give me extra time to pay?

No. Form 4868 grants an automatic 6-month extension to file your return (until October 15), but not to pay. The Failure to Pay penalty (0.5%/month) and daily interest still accrue from April 15.

What is the IRS First-Time Penalty Abatement (FTA)?

The IRS provides administrative relief under the First-Time Abatement policy for Failure to File or Failure to Pay penalties if you have filed all currently required returns and have a clean compliance record for the preceding 3 tax years.
